Service options

There are service options for deliveries for now and for later on/ less time-dependent. (The classifications are new. Adjustments to the parameters and prices are likely as we get feedback from our customers, restaurant clients, couriers and dispatchers.)

Delivery terms to know, first

Delivery window: a range/ window of arrival time eg. 11:10 am to 2:10 pm (for a grocery delivery for our 3-Hour Window service option)

Timed delivery: a delivery that is requested for read more

a specific arrival time, later on, as opposed to beginning the preparation and delivery process immediately.

Timed delivery assumes a delivery window and the window is smaller or larger depending on the service option chosen. For example, a takeout-food timed delivery could be 3:45 pm to 4:00 pm for the Standard B service option. See the service option details for more info.

Timed deliveries aren’t for now. If you’re placing a food order at 2 pm, it doesn’t work to request your food delivered for 2:20 pm because cooking and transit will likely take longer than that.

Pooling: when more than one delivery goes with the courier on their route. (All delivery services, delivery apps (Ubereats, Skip, DoorDash) and pizzerias pool their deliveries sometimes eg. Dominos drivers do up to 4 deliveries when it is busiest). Most pooling adds a moderate amount of minutes to the waiting time. Eg. A delivery dropped on Ontario street and one over the causeway to the military base sent together in one route or a route from downtown that goes to 600 Princess then to 2900 Princess.

Hold time: the time before the prepping/ cooking of your takeout food begins due to a “lineup” of prior orders in the restaurant’s kitchen or due to a deliberate hold so that the time that the food is ready aligns better with the time the food deliverer arrives at the restaurant. This keeps the food hotter.

Prep time: the time involved in the preparation and cooking of your takeout-food

Sitting time: the time from when your takeout food is ready (and sitting) to the time that you have it. Sitting time is due to the time it takes to travel from the restaurant to you and, sometimes, due to the food being ready before the courier arrives to pick it up or, sometimes, to stop at another customer on the way to you.

Deliveries For Later:

These service options are practical for less urgent needs, and wants, for grocery, LCBO, Beer Store, Wine rack, pet food, pharmacy, retail and other deliveries.

“For later” routes are not typically used for takeout-food deliveries but could be if it’s something that isn’t temperature-dependent like bakery items or certain desserts. Maybe you want a month’s worth of General Tao chicken for your freezer/ that isn’t for supper today? You could choose a less urgent Service Option (with a lower price) in that case.

The Friday Route

This once-weekly route is for the “planners” among us for less-urgent delivery needs/ wants. Can order up until noon on Tuesday.

This route has significant discounts. Everyone (within this area) gets close to the same base delivery fee (for distance) as downtown customers. Additionally, there’s another 40% reduction from the Standard Service Option price.

Price: Significant discounts on base delivery charge (for distance) and 40% off Standard A Service Option price eg. 2 item LCBO order to Chapters Zone/ Costco area $4.80 (instead of $10)

Next-Day Service

Five-Hour Window

Can choose to have the five-hour window start immediately or to be for a later time. Orders for this option are accepted up until 5 pm.

Price: 23% off Standard A Service Option price eg. 2 item Shoppers delivery to downtown is $6.16 (instead of $8)

Three-Hour Window

Can choose to have the three-hour window start immediately or to be for a later time. Orders for this option are accepted up until 7 pm.

Price: 17% off Standard A service option price eg. 3 item convenience store delivery to Queen Mary Rd/ Calvin Park is $6.64 (instead of 8)

Deliveries for now:

For these, the customer’s wait time will depend on factors such as the locations of the delivery origin and destination and the amount of time it takes to prepare the food or how long it takes to shop and lineup to pay for your items eg. in a grocery store or LCBO.

Standard A

For our standard service, we go to great lengths to contain the amount of wait time and maintain the temperature of food orders.

With our standard service, a lot of the deliveries will go like this: courier arrives at the restaurant before the food is ready and travels the quickest path to you and without another drop-off on the way.

Sometimes there are delays and occasionally significant delays. Delivery volume can fluctuate and sometimes it gets busier than we can expect or prepare for, for a particular hour or day and wait times can be longer due to varying degrees of a delivery request “lineup” or delivery pooling. Consider also that restaurants can get behind with their orders and there can be hold time on your order (the time before it is cooked).

For many types of takeout-foods and for most people’s schedule, our standard service is sufficient. If your plans have particular time constraints or you ordered food that is more sensitive for food temperature or sitting time, consider one of the options below which offer a greater amount of predictability than our standard service which carries the (possibility) of a longer than average wait.

We provide standard A if a different service option isn’t specified read more

except for specific restaurants where we know the food is more temperature-dependent such as Woodenheads (thin-crust pizza) or ice cream shops. Also, some restaurants have chosen Standard 2 for all their deliveries they call on us for.

Timed deliveries:

a 20 minute delivery window is assumed for takeout food eg. 5:45 pm to 6:05 pm (if it is specified for a particular time eg. 4 pm this will mean eg. 3:50 pm to 4:10 pm but aiming for 4 pm)

a 60 minute window for timed deliveries for none takeout-food deliveries

Standard B

For takeout-food deliveries for this service option, extra attention will be taken to contain the sitting time. At the busiest times, there will be less pooling for standard B compared to Standard A

Like our Standard A service, a lot of the deliveries will go like this: courier arrives at the restaurant before the food is ready and travels the quickest path to you and without another drop-off on the way.

Wait times for shopping deliveries for Standard B will be less (on average) than Standard A but will fluctuate with the delivery volume.

Price: standard fee + 15% (minimum $1) eg. Harper’s Burgers to Goodes Hall, Queen’s $7 (instead of $6)

Special delivery

The courier arrives before or basically at the time the takeout-food is ready or goes immediately to the store if it’s a shopping delivery

Only a small, negligible, amount of extra minutes could be added to the customer’s waiting time and usually there isn’t any.

-if there is a second food delivery in the same restaurant as yours but it’s another 2-3 minute wait at the restaurant, we may have the courier wait if it’s also delivered farther than yours (after yours) and in the same direction.

-if, while in the LCBO, the courier may be given another two orders to shop for that are going to destinations farther than yours (are delivered after yours)

Price: Standard A fee + 25% (minimum $1.50) eg. Harper’s Burgers to Goodes Hall, Queen’s $7.5 (instead of $6) read more
